Anyone ever lived in/around western Colorado?
Haviing recently completed a profitable real estate transaction, we'd like to invest part of the money we made in an out-of-state property. We're interested in something rural with a decent water supply, and decent soils in which to grow food, ideally something with a few (and God willing several) acres.
We plan to rent it to a close relative who's handy with mechanical things and who has a knack for gardening, and he'll maintain the place in our absence. It will be a potential bug-out location but more likely a beachhead for us once we finally pull the plug and escape CA. Since the rest of the family is already in or very near CO, we're likely to look there. Mrs. Hive was recently scoping out the turf in and around the towns of Montrose and Grand Junction, and these are possibilities for us. If any of you fine folks have lived or live out in western CO and know anything, good or bad, that you'd care to share here, I'd really appreciate the benefit of your experience(s). My thanks in advance for any information/help... Very sincerely, H7 |

Hive,
I'm on the Front Range. You might try giving Don Stott a buzz www.coloradogold.com he's in Montrose I believe. He also sells PM's too. Might be a nice introduction to buy a few? He's lived there for some 20 years or more. FWIW |
Re: Anyone ever lived in/around western Colorado?
I've lived on both sides, front range and western slope.
I really like the Western slope, but keep in mind colorado is arid. If you are looking for a homestead, water is critical. Montrose and GJ are high desert. I'd look more toward a rural, forest type property. Did I mention water? |

I hear ya', and it's something I've thought about a lot. Cali people are more often than not a bane wherever they go, for the reasons you mention. Yet still I feel compelled to be truthful about where I'm from if/when we finally bail out of here. All I can say if confronted is, "I would have preferred to stay where I was. However, Fabian socialists and cultural Marxists wrecked my state by killing industry there and ruining our job prospects. Then, they looted us of our wages in the form of excessive taxes, which was subsequently lavished on the criminal foreigners they helped to import. In the end, we were living in a neo-fascist form of Mexico, from which we had to flee for our lives." |

I know you guys may think I'm nuts but I give Texas the best rating for defending ones freedoms. They are already very aware of what they are up against and actually have more right to secede from the nation than any other.
If cold is not a problem South Dakota North Dakota Wyoming Montana, maybe even Northern Michigan. It all depends on what you want to defend yourself from and whether you prefer to go it alone. If it is the clear and present danger of alien infestation I would prefer the north. If it were Nuclear bombs coming over the top I would suggest first south of the equator or Oceania. You may be OK in the northern states but remember, you not only have to worry about the ICBM itself but the idiots who are going to try and take them out. The possibility of a missile getting diverted to save a shit-hole like LA could easily be routed to Utah, Wyoming or wherever. If that is not enough concern think about this jet stream and the path of the fallout. Colorado is nowhere near my list of preferred destinations. Plus there are properties that have wells. Especially those that have deep water wells that were drilled below the first aquifer. You sink a well 5 - 10 k feet and trust me, if you are in the correct place, you will end up with more water than most small villages use. These places are available occasionally. Not cheap mind you, but certainly addresses all the 'lack of water' issues. Regarding ICBM's 'coming in over the top', I kinda lean towards Robert Heinlein's theory on this one. If there IS going to be a nuclear war, then Katie bar the door, cause Mr. Heinlein lived down in Colorado Springs for many years. He used to say that if the world was going to end, you might as well go out in a 'flash'... Regrading the immigration issues, Colorado has a high density of them in the southern half of the state. But we are just far enough north that by the time you get to the Wyoming border (straight up I-25 for me), there are as many if not more American Indians as there are other immigrants. |
Re: Anyone ever lived in/around western Colorado?
It appears that Colorado politics are dominated by Denver, Denver is inconsistent with my notions of liberty. For a bugout location it is too close to the proposed NAFTA superhighway for my tastes and in general Colorado will be soon over run by the same Aztlan jerks and others that have taken over California. You'd still be directly in the path of the reconquista. If it is the NWO you are worried about there is apparently a body of such believers who think that Denver may be serving as a processing center, relocation camp or even capitol for the NWO. They point to the disturbing Denver airport murals and its architectural anomalies as evidence of this but you'll have to make that judgement for yourself as it is rather unclear to me. If you're worried about WWIV then you would be placing yourself directly along the path of any forces sympathetic to the Eastern Bloc which will be flowing North from South of the Border along with very likely a large block of the Chinese.
I suppose there really is no place in the CONUS that is strategically ideal, they all have their own serious faults. I like Alaska because it is remote, big enough to hide in and harsh enough to kill all the idiots in the event of a societal collapse. OTOH it is vulnerable to Eastern Block invasion and is a strategic target for its oil and natural resources if for no other reason. The state politics seem really good but a disporportionate ammount of the state is federally owned and then you have wild cards like HAARP and who knows what else. There just isn't enough room in the world anymore. Heck, if I could figure out what I need to survive down there I'd move to Antarctica which as far as I can tell is the last real frontier unless you want to hide out on the oceans. If it is any help at all what I did was find a location that eight miles from any small towns in an area where the population is largely homogenous with white Americans who were born and raised here for many generations, are on average young and have families. It is an agricultural community that is employed and has a low crime rate and lots and lots of guns in private hands. I'm right up against a large wilderness area, I have rich soils(never mind my oaks, you should see my weeds!) and more water than I know what to do with. If you can find a similar location in Colorado or anywhere and you can manage to look unimportant you'll probably do as well as anybody. If you can stay out of the path of the main destruction the marching morons and psychotic superpowers will eventually burn themselves out. I don't mean to get up in your personal business but just as a caution I've seen many people who had a similar plan to rent out a property or home to a close friend or dear relative with the understanding that said renter would do some work around the place. I'm not saying it was always a disaster but I'd just say don't expect too much and don't be suprised if you end up being stuck with some cleanup work. Otherwise I hope everything goes as planned. |

There are many places to get lost among those mountains, although I am considering Idaho.
The politics are definitely centered in Denver. |
Re: Anyone ever lived in/around western Colorado?
Balls, Idaho got real expensive in the real estate.
